Congratulations to the Washington School’s First Grade students for being selected by Principal Rivera as the March Students of the Month. They are truly dedicated to their academics and have an excellent future in the Union City School District.

Congratulations to the Washington School’s multiplication contest winners for the month of March. Principal Rivera and Ms. Mullaly, Mathematics Coach, awarded the students with a 711 treat. They are truly deserving.

The Washington School’s Kindergarten and First Grade students enjoyed a Fire Safety Show. They learned fire safety and prevention tips. All students received a firefighter’s helmet and a safety resource packet to bring home to their families.

Thank you to Amerigroup for donating books to Washington School’s Kindergarten through 3rd Grade classroom libraries as part of the Read Across America NJ program initiative in March.

The Washington School celebrated St. Patrick’s Day during a Parent Breakfast. Parents enjoyed a breakfast and a presentation on financial literacy from Ponce Bank. Parents also enjoyed student dances and songs. Retired teacher Liz McGlaughlin was also honored.

There are very important highlights concerning the focus of raising student interest in fruit as well as vegetable consumption by increasing the usage of locally grown food and much more. The Washington School celebrated National Pi (3.14) Day with a variety of mathematical activities. Students used mathematical tools such as a compass to draw circles and used the formula to find the circumference of circles.

The Washington School celebrated a district wide SEL (Social Emotional Learning) Day. Students were engaged in social emotional learning activities and a school spirit day to show team unity.

Washington School Kindergarten students celebrated “Read Across America Week" with daily themed activities and a culminating activity on fairy tales. Specifically, a special thank you to Mr. Passante from the Union City Board of Education for coming to our school to read a book to the children and Mrs. Kanik, Parent Liaison, for decorating our school and inviting special guests for this important initiative.
